Bridal makeup is a task that often encompasses tricks taken from the field
of film and television production. Singularly important is the ability of
the artist to generate makeup that can withstand the day's events without
touch-up, and yet look and feel superbly natural. After all, nobody wants to
be a "cakey" bride. Thus we have the challenge of creating a look that must
encompass three primary objectives. Much like that of an actor, a bride's
makeup must reflect her personality and natural beauty. Therefore, she must
inhabit it with ease. If a bride has never worn makeup before, it stands to
reason that providing her with a full set of false lashes will not be a wise
choice, no matter how flattering it might appear. The stability of the
products and their application is also fundamentally important. Unlike
studio makeup which can be touched up between takes, bridal makeup has to
withstand the rigors of personal touch, and perhaps even sweat and changes
in clothing. Finally, bridal makeup has to photograph beautifully and
easily. A bride generally has a limited degree of time in which to obtain
photographs, so the makeup has to work in all lights and angles, both
indoors and out.
